Ropeadope presents Quantum Blues featuring Tisziji Muñoz, Paul Shaffer, Will Calhoun & Jamaaladeen Tacuma

Tisziji has been my mentor since meeting him in the summer of 1969. I've recorded a number of auspicious things with him, but this time he and his wife, Kshanti, said "Paul, why don't you get the band?" What you hear is the result. When I first apprenticed with Tisziji, he started me out on jazz standards. Once I could accompany him on these, he went modal on me and we never played another change. With Will Calhoun and Jamaaladeen Tacuma, two cats who he had never met, he chose not to prearrange anything. After some cordial introductions, we sat down and played all day--no prep, no charts, no nothing. The music must be heard to be believed. (Paul Shaffer)

The result is Quantum Blues, a work that takes the listener by the hand on a journey of true musical exploration. It is evident that the artists are dealing with and transmitting much more than just music, they are investigating their own emotion and understanding of the world and communicating the process directly to us. In a world of quickly digestible tracks, Quantum Blues stands like a complex novel of the human experience.
